Spring has sprung and with it exciting news for Missfit.

Since the New Year I’ve been busy working on private commissions for some fabulous artistes who have re-established my mantle of ‘Dressmaker to the Queens’!

Firstly there has been the wonderful Queerina Slutskaya, a drag queen with a flair for retro fashion. As a fan of anything OTT I especially loved Rina’s instruction to ‘exaggerate and then exaggerate the exaggeration!’ Rina loves volumous shape and sensational shine and together we have worked to create 2 divine dresses that capture both fun and flamboyance in beautiful fabrics and daring design. I hope this will be the beginning of a fantastic partnership as I know Rina has lots more exciting ideas for fabulous frocks we can create.

Then there was Manuao Teaotonga who contacted me from Perth, Australia for an outfit to perform in the Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras in February. The particular outfit Manuao wanted was the Kylie Space Dress and WOW did he look sensational! It’s times like these when I wish I could pop over to do a fitting, the photos from the parade look pure fun.

Of course though there’s been no time for trips to far off places, although I’ve sent outfits off to the US and Australia in the past couple of months as well as more costumes to the wonderful Abba girls in Spain. Hopefully be getting some photos of their performance in Benidorm shortly. Similar ongoing commissions are for a Lisa Lisa outfit which will fly off to Kentucky soon and a Gwen Stefani creation.

Other recent projects have included an article I’ve just completed for Natalie Adcock of Birmingham Recycled that you can find at www.birminghamrecycled.co.uk

I now have Recreate clothing for sale at the Created in Birmingham shop in the Bullring! Details can be found on the website www.createdinbirmingham.com. The shop will be open for a limited period only and can be found on the top floor of the Bullring, Birmingham (Debenhams side).

Got to fly, things to make, places to sew...
