There are four vintage shirts in this dress, dating from 1960s-70s. Each one has been rescued from landfill due to damage or staining. My job is to take the best of each shirt and rework the useable fabric into new designs.
For this dress I wanted to keep as much of the leaf patterned shirt as possible, it is so unique. I have tried to compliment the colour scheme adding parts of shirts with similar shades. I also attempt to maintain the key parts of the shirts including fastenings, pockets and plackets. Here I've also kept cuffs and collar.
The dress fastens down the front with the original button opening to the waist. It is a loose fitting buffet style dress that will fit comfortably up to a size UK 20. The shirt hems have also been incorporated into the design as far as possible giving an uneven hemline.
All of my upcycled designs are unique and take shape as I create them. Every piece of fabric used is taken from vintage garments destined for landfill.
