What a special find this was, ticking all the boxes of vintage St Michael with quality, style and of course durability as their garments do seem to go on and on.
In the case of this gorgeous 1960's housecoat, there have been some lost buttons but, I dug deep into my vintage button stash and added some that give the gown back it's wholesome feel.
Style wise, here is the classic housecoat which can be worn over nightwear but was often slipped on during the day to protect your best frock whilst doing chores. This is why the housecoat used to be as good looking as it was functional because you never knew when the doorbell might ring!
Three quarter length, the hem edged with lace as are the sleeves which sit just above the wrist and are scalloped in order not to dangle in your washing up bowl. Fastening down the front, the replacement buttons have a pearlised appearance (three of one set, two of another) and the small mandarin style collar is also edged with lace.
The fabric is polyester that has been cut like lace and the inside is lined with white nylon. There are two side pockets. The gown is in great condition and deserves to be worn with pride again, day or night.
