This sensational sixties pinafore has been handmade and the fabric alone is just beautiful. Soft cotton based with a large daisy like print in yellow and orange on brown with a few white daisies thrown in, very much of its time. The fold over shoulders have a 1" / 2.5cm button attached, this is for show as they don't open, the dress actually fastens at the back with its original 19" / 48.5cm zipper.
Somewhere along it's sixty year history there has been either something attached ot taken away as the front was damaged with a number of small holes. With something as highly patterned and vividly coloured as this, it wasn't easy finding the right covering. The holes were too uniform to make a rown of embroidered daisies so I created a large pocket from some 60's curtain fabric that had similar colouring. This fastens with a prestud and I've added a feature yellow button along with a few random embroidered daisies to cover the remaining holes.
It's as sympathetic a transformation as I could manage as I didn't want to completely rework such a gorgeous frock.
