As with so much of the stock that arrives with me, there is no label or fabric detail in this dress and so ageing it proved difficult.
I repaired an armhole seam and some parts of the lining which had come away as well as hand stitching some of the topstitch detail. Tailoring techniques and the zipper style are clues to the era this dress originated as well of course as the style.
One of the puzzling elements is the fabric use; both the skirt of the dress and the bodice are not traditional dress fabrics. The brown polyester mix is quite thick like an upholstery fabric and the animal print also an unusual choice. The lining is a bright bronze polyester and has some staining under the arms as well as a couple of stins at the front. As they do not affect the look of the dress I have chosen not to replace the entire lining and have priced accordingly.
I'm a fan of mixing things up and have made many dresses from curtains, the weight and quality of the fabrics can give a great fit and crisp silhouette. This dress stands out precisely because of this and has been beautifully tailored and finished to a high standard.
