Part of the joy of dealing in vintage clothing is discovering a little of the history of these fabulous garments that have survived for so many years. This dress appears to be early seventies and has a real stand out style.
Designed by Sybil Zelker for Polly Peck and carrying the label 2001 the dress is made of a polyester mix, the top is black and a slightly heavier weight. Short sleeved, the scooped neck has a deep facing and the dress fastens at the back with the original metal zipper.
The skirt is a lighter weight and has patterning in three bands. The upper band in shades of gold, red and brown has a leaf and flora design running around. The larger middle section of the skirt is black with two rows of a paisley style gold design repeated and the lower section mirrors the top one.
At the back there is a split which I have made a repair to. There is a small hole near the lower front of the dress which. The dress appears to have originally had a belt but this is missing, the belt loops can easily be cut if not needed.
