The fabric in this gorgeous peasant style frock is a light polycotton in shades that are barely black and just off white. The floral pattern is mirrored - top half black on white and skirt white on black.
The dress is fully lined and fastens at the back with its original zipper. There are four velvet covered buttons down the front and there was a broad velvet band attached but this had seen better days. I looked at replacing it but the dress looks just as lovely without - there is an option to attach another belt though. At the back, there is a small amount of fading where the belt sat and you may just make out small stitching holes from where it was unpicked.
The neck edge is a deep scoop that just about sits on the shoulder tips - my mannequin is a little slight for this dress but you can see what I mean in the images.
For a dress of its age, it is in remarkable good condition and there is just so much fabric in this! It's a voluminous skirt and those sleeves... the hem is attached to the lining giving extra puff!
Fitting well into the current cottage core aesthetic, this is a dress that fully deserves another chance to show off.
