An unusual top, not quite a shirt and neither a jacket - maybe an early shacket? It almost has the look of a coverall. Whatever it is, the maker took a lot of care when putting it together.
In a brown and gold check, the fabric is a heavy cotton blend, washed beautifully and needed little pressing. It doesn't look worn although there's a very small mark near the buttons. The button fastenings are mock wood, nice and chunky. There are no fastenings on the sleeve cuffs which differ from a shirt pattern and the collar is set quite wide at the neck, again more jacket than shirt. Time has been taken to pattern match with sleeves and collars matching precisely. There is no shape tailoring - again not like a shirt and there are side split openings. The maker hand stitched the wide hemline in beautiful herringbone stitch.
A very unusual and well made piece of vintage.
