Confession time. Until watching the latest series of The Great British Sewing Bee I'd not heard of a Buffet Dress. When I picked this out of my vintage haul it matched that description perfectly, fitted across the shoulders and wider under the arms so that the dress falls away from the body (hiding a multitude of sins and lockdown excess), This example has been beautifully handmade in a soft cotton blend fabric with a delicate floral print in green, pink, lilac, yellow and white. The attention to detail is shown in the fine pleating across the chest, the cross stitched collar and bias taped hem. Fastens at the back with a zipper.
With three quarter sleeves with a wide cuff and two lower tiers, it's a gorgeous vintage example of what has become a fast growing new trend.
