Missfit has been running since 2004 but it's only been in the running business for a couple of years. Until that time the focus of my design work was entertainment incorporating pop fashion in all my creations.
I was a keen runner at school progressing to county level and training with the local athletics club. My chosen distance was 800m so I was used to a fast pace twice around the track.
When I laced up my trainers to run again, over 30 years had elapsed and belting around a track no longer appealed. I'm happier road running now and regularly cover between 10-20 miles a week.
Having designed and made costumes for performers I had a good supply of stretch fabrics which I began to look at in a new way. I'd run up lycra suits for Bowie tributes and kitted out boy bands in street wear designs, why not fitness fans?
Much of my stock lent itself well to yoga and running gear and so I began designing a whole new range inspired by my new fitness regime.
This weekend I will be taking part in the Great Birmingham Run doing a half marathon, it will be my first race at this distance. I've done two training runs at 13.1 so know I can make it, both times I got round in 2.03 hours. On Sunday I'm hoping to get below two hours...a big ask.
I will of course be kitted out in Missfit Creations, I'm wearing the fabulous Hip Hop print leggings from our new collection of FunkiFabric prints. Designs from this range will be on the website next week.
If you're out and about in our second city this Sunday look out for Missfit and give me a wave :-)
