Back to Business
It's official, the wedding dresses have left the building! Just over 2 weeks ago the big day arrived and I got to dress my youngest daughter and her 4 bridesmaids in designs I'd created myself. Missfit is now definitely out of the bridal business.
Over the years I've made several wedding and bridesmaids dresses, mostly the more elaborate and unusual brides have come to me with their ideas. Having now made both my daughters dresses I can honestly say it's not a job I particularly enjoy, labour intensive is an understatement. However, there is an incredible pride and of course a lot of emotion attached to creating a wedding dress. My over-riding emotion right now is relief.
September for me is a time of new beginnings, more so than New Year I find this month especially lends itself to fresh starts and blank pages. Maybe it's a school day association with the academic year beginning now, whatever the reason I am feeling ready start anew and where better than back at the beginning.
I hinted in my last post that I would be making a return to my pop fashion roots, it's about time Missfit got back to what it does best, making statement clothing. The ethos of the business has always been to make use of the fabrics and garments that are already available to us. Taking vintage pieces and bespoke fabrics to remake original clothing using traditional tailoring and cutting edge customisation.
As well as stitching I do love to write and so I'll be combining my design work with some show and tell here on the website. Talking of the website, I'm still busy updating and have also added my Etsy store in place of the web shop; more to come but web design is not my strong point so bear with me.
Order books are now open for private commissions but be warned, if it's bridal I'm not here ;-)
