This dress was created using the remnants of four vintage shirts from the 1960s and 70s. Each of the shirts was saved from landfill due to damage and all of the wearable parts have been used in other garments.
The primary shirt is the gorgeous green leaf print, you will find some marks if you look very closely but I have endeavoured to disguise any that are noticeable.
The shirt dress fastens at the front with its original buttons to the waist and the cuffs have two popper fasteners. The check shirt used in collar, cuffs and skirt is a western design from the 1970s. I have incorporated both top pockets in the skirt as well as featuring the popper fasteners. Other green print shirts have also got traditional features used including a button placket in the skirt and I've left the shirt hems where possible.
The dress is a buffet style, free fitting for up to a size UK 22. As the shirts have been frequently washed, they are lightweight and so partially transparent in places.
It is my job to ensure clothing is kept from landfill and reused in any way possible. This shirt dress therefore is totally unique in its style and design as it has been put together using a variety of shirt fashions from differing decades.
